Geraniums are often mistaken for Pelargoniums, and they are both very popular Summer bedding plants. You can distinguish them by their flowers. With geraniums the flowers have five similarly shaped petals that are symmetrical and are often marked with veins. Pelargonium flowers have two upper petals which are flanked by three different lower petals. They come in a range of colours in differing shades of pink, whist purple or blue. Hardy geraniums are incredibly popular perennials in Britain, as they are easy to grow, flower over a long period and tough.

Plant position and soil: Likes a sunny spot/partial shade with but well drained soil. Generally perennial and winter-hardy plants but there are exceptions.
