Poinsettia is a common sight to all at Christmas time due to their bright red and green foliage.

The plant species is indigenous to Mexico and Central America where it is referred to as 'Noche Buena', meaning Christmas Eve.

The plants religious connotations and associations with Christmas go back as far as 16th Century Mexico.The star-shaped leaf is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, and the colour red represents Jesus' sacrifce through his Crucifixion.

Plant position and soil: Likes to be indoors in bright light. Water sparingly, let compost dry out in between feeds. Likes humidity so mist regularly.
